Lymphoepithelial Cell Complexes in Murine

چکیده

T lymphocyte differentiation is a complex developmental process involving the interaction of lymphoid cells with thymic stromal elements. Humoral factors are known to effect certain steps in intrathymic T cell differentiation (1). There is, however, little doubt that other developmental steps require direct cell contacts between differentiating thymocytes and thymic stroma cells. This is particularly true for selection processes, which are presumably involved in the generation of T lymphocyte specificity and diversity (2-5). The mechanism of intrathymic T lymphocyte differentiation is mostly unknown. We do not even know, where in the thymus these differentiation events take place. One possible site of thymocyte differentiation is a cell type, which we have recently discovered. 1 These cells are stromal elements of extraordinary size, which may contain 25 or more smallto medium-sized lymphoid thymocytes. The engulfed thymocytes are not degraded. In contrast, they appear to encounter microenvironmental conditions, which facilitate lymphocyte survival and differentiation. We have termed these specialized stroma cells "thymie nurse cells," (TNC). 2 In this contribution, we present ultrastructural data, which identify TNC as epithelial cells. TNC contain lymphocytes, which appear to be fully intact and metabolically active, and display high mitotic activity. The lymphocytes are completely enclosed by intact TNC membranes. It appears that specialized contact areas exist that connect internalized lymphocytes with their surrounding TNC membranes. We furthermore present the results of experiments where we applied monoclonal antibodies against products of various subregions of the H-2 system and against a number of (T) lymphocyte differentiation markers. Antibody binding was assayed by indirect immunofluorescence with parallel flow cytofluorimetry and fluorescence microscopy. TNC express products of the K / D regions as well as of the I-A and I-E/C regions. They lack, however, lymphocytic differentiation markers, such as Thy-1, Ly-1, Ly-2,

Lymphoepithelial – Like Carcinoma with Papillary Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Urinary Bladder Associated with Carcinoma in situ Changes of the Urothelium; A Case Report and Review of Literature

Lymphoepithelial - like carcinoma, is rarely recognized in the urinary bladder and less commonly occurs with papillary transitional cell carcinoma i.e. mixed pattern. Also, less uncommon is the occurrence of carcinoma in situ changes in the adjacent urothelium of these tumors. Here, a case of lymphoepithelial – like carcinoma and papillary transitional cell carcinoma associated with carci...

Cationic Immune Stimulating Complexes Containing Soluble Leishmania Antigens: Preparation, Characterization and in Vivo Immune Response Evaluation

Background: Cationic immune stimulating complexes (PLUSCOMs) are particulate antigen delivery systems. PLUSCOMs consist of cationic immunostimulatory complexes (ISCOMs) derivatives and are able to elicit in vivo T cell responses against an antigen. Objective: To evaluate the effects of PLUSCOMs containing Leishmaniamajor antigens (SLA) on the type of immune response generated in the murine mod...

Bilateral Multiple Lymphoepithelial Cysts of Palatine Tonsils

Lymphoepithelial cyst of oral cavity is a rare cystic lesion that presents as an asymptomatic submucosal mass and is usually discovered during routine dental examinations. The site most commonly affected is floor of the mouth and tonsillar involvement seems to be very rare. Multiple Lymphoepithelial cysts have been reported in parotid of HIV positive patients however in oral cavity they usua...

Lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary gland: in situ detection of Epstein-Barr virus.

AIM To examine the role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary gland in Hong Kong Chinese. METHODS Ten cases of lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary gland (eight parotid and two submandibular) were examined. In situ hybridisation was used to localise EBER RNA, immunohistochemical methods to detect expression of latent membrane protein 1 (LMP-1) in EBV ...

Primary lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the parotid gland in a North African woman

Lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary glands is a rare neoplasm that is characterized by a non-neoplastic lymphocytic infiltration associated with an epithelial proliferation. It involves mainly the parotid gland. Racial and geographical factors contribute to the pathogenesis of this tumor. We report a case of a 70-year old woman from a non-endemic area who presented with several months hi...

A Case of Primary Lymphoepithelial Carcinoma in the Palate

65 The Chinese Journal of Dental Research Lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC) is an undifferentiated tumour that is associated with a dense lymphoid stroma. An exceptionally high incidence of this tumour is found in the Inuit populations and Asians1,2. This neoplasm has been associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection2,3. LECs of salivary glands represent rare epithelial malignancies. They ...
